A Christmas Story Musical in Boston – Giveaway

A christmas story
THE SHOW – It’s a Christmas movie cult classic! Everyone’s seen it. Now it comes to the stage in musical spectacular. Yeeha!

“The story takes place in 1940’s Indiana, where a bespectacled boy named Ralphie has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas—a Red Ryder BB Gun. A kooky leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a cranky department store Santa, and a tripledog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas dream. Co-produced by the film’s original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, A Christmas Story, The Musical is musical comedy entertainment that captures a simpler time in America with delicious wit and a heart of gold.”

Doughnut Seeds!

My daughter’s preschool teachers sent her home with doughnut seeds today.

DoughnutSeeds1 Hmmmmm – they look like they could turn into doughnuts.

DoughnutSeeds2She planted the seeds.

DoughnutSeeds3 She watered the seeds.

DoughnutSeeds4She said she would wait for them to grow. Asked how long it would take?
I couldn’t carry on with it anymore.
I told her that there was no such thing as a doughnut seed or a donut tree.
I explained about April Fools Day and it being a trick.
Huh?

DoughnutSeeds6
Then you could see it start to take hold and this happened…

DoughnutSeeds5
We have sown a plan of our own and her teachers will get a tree branch with powdered doughnuts on it tomorrow.
And after that, a room full of 4 year olds with a sugar high.
Payback is a bitch.

UPDATE: Doughnut Tree pic :-)

Her teacher just about died from the giggles! Thanks Dawn & Colleen :-)

Rwanda – Path to Peace

Over the Holidays I received a beautiful cookbook and basket from Macy’s. My intention was to create one of the recipes and feature it IN the basket. This is what bloggers do. But then I got the flu. You know the one that made Boston declare a health emergency, yeah that one. So everything got put on hold for a while, a long while. There was no cooking, or blogging.

So here we are past the holidays and I have this amazing book:

Rwanda Path to Peace Macy's Cookbook

And basket:

Rwanda Path to Peace artisan bowl

From Macy’s:
Rwanda Path to Peace is a healing journey and a source of sustainable living that utilizes the incredible skill of weaving that is passed down by generations of Rwandan women. A decade ago, these women saw their neighbors and their families destroyed by genocide and ethnic cleansing, leaving many of them broken and hopeless, lost in a country where women are considered second-rate citizens because of their gender. The recovery from a tragedy of this magnitude is a constant struggle. The sale of the baskets through Macy’s has given these women a source of sustainable income and pride.

The project and the income it generates has improved the lives of at least 18,000 children, providing access to education, health care and more. The weavers are now able to pay school fees, purchase essential supplies and provide shoes and clean uniforms. They can even afford kerosene and candles to provide light in the evening so children can complete their schoolwork.

Beyond the obvious benefits of scholastic supplies and health care, the children in weavers’ communities are benefiting in a number of less tangible ways. They feel immense pride in their mother’s ability to provide for them, praising them to friends and telling classmates that their mother’s baskets sell in America. The children are also enjoying strengthened relationships with their fathers who look after them while their mothers weave. The strong, cooperative relationships being forged between women and men are providing excellent examples for the future.

For more info go to www.Macys.com/Rwanda
There are also some amazing interviews with the weavers here.

I’ll be featuring some of the recipes in the book all year long!

My new cleaning machine

I was horrified when I opened up a particular Christmas present this year.

HORRIFIED.

I have told my husband that things like pots and pans, irons, and VACUUMS are not presents. They’re just not. Jewelry is a present. A vacuum is an indictment on the cleanliness of my house. It’s impersonal. And it will really piss me off. The box was too small to be a vacuum, or so I thought.

In his defense he looked truly terrified when I turned around to look at him after I opened it.

“Honey, it’s an awesome vacuum. It’s a Dyson!” He said.

He explained that he has watched me for years tote the old giant vacuum around the house and up the stairs. It was my grandmother’s – I’m not kidding. Ours broke right before my oldest was born and my Dad gave me this one to tide us over. It worked fine so we never replaced it.

He told me he just wanted me to have an easier time. He said hew was sorry – “But look, it’s purple!”

Well it IS cute.

She makes that vacuum look good, I just make it look goofy.

All the cool girls are packing a Dyson Digital Slim.

So there you have, it I got a vacuum for Christmas. Also – it is AWESOME. I love it. It’s a Dyson DC44 Animal Cordless Vacuum.

I also really appreciate that my husband gave it to me. He was being thoughtful and I realize that. He also followed it up quickly with earrings :-)

My not so resolute New Year’s ideas

Yeah, that’s what I’m calling it. You don’t like it, well how are your resolutions going? Hmmmmm? Still at it? Well I hope you are! Me? I never made it past the first week. I gave them up years ago.

So it’s the first week in January and I have some very definite ideas about what I’d like to accomplish this year. Goals, if you will. I’ll work hard towards them, but I will not name them resolutions. Nuh uh.

I’ve been spending some time with this be-atch the past couple of days…

Gaaaaaaaah!

Gaaaaaaaah!

I’ve also started eating the 4Hour Body way again. Which means my husband is all 4HB again. He’s grouchy ;-) Two years ago I had amazing results from 4HB and I really loved it. I made some modification and kept on with it. Then I started eating chips and bread again, and my tummy is back. Sigh.

I feel stronger already. I have more energy already. Why do I always forget how GOOD eating right and exercising make me feel. WHY?

Being healthier also makes me a more patient mother and wife. And a happier one.

Professionally, I’d like to build the blog more, Hence doing a course called 30 Days to Build a Better Blog. I started in in December but it fizzled out because I had the flu. In case you didn’t notice I was absent over the week around Christmas. Holy Hell was I sick. So I’m starting it again this week. We’re building here people!

I’d also like to do some more video work now that I have a new camera. Wooohoooo!

So there you have it some stuff I’d like to do.
What are you doing with the New Year?
