The grass is greener where you water it.

A quote by Neil Barringham. Made pretty by the people at the blog Are you Serious.

You can buy a postcard of it there :-)

This snow outside is quite high and I’m dreaming of spring and the smell of grass. But that’s not what this quote is about is it. I’m am in and out on here and on social media becasue I’ve been spending more time watering the grass at home ;-)

Stinky stuff? DIY Vodka Deodorizer

Last winter I packed up all of our hats and mittens put them in plastic bags and put them in the cellar.

Mistake number one, I put them in the cellar.
Mistake number two, the bags did not have a tight seal.

Unfortunate circumstance number one, we have a fieldstone basement.
Unfortunate circumstance number two, we got some pretty serious rain over the summer.

This brings me to October and the very weird New England weather. It was hot then cold then hot then cold, you get it. So off I went to the basement to get the hats and mittens.

And here’s the problem. The mistakes combined with the circumstances made them as stinky as all get out. Basement mildew moldy STANK.

I washed them and washed them and washed them. Hypoallergenic detergent, full on perfume detergent, special cloth diaper detergent, oxyclean, white vinegar. Everything.

So I took the internet, as you do. I find a couple of posts about vodka. Really? Vodka? Apparently the vodka kills the bacteria, but is basically odorless. Sure, why not.

Let’s do this!

So there you have it!

1 1/2 cup water
1 cup vodka

Saturate the stinky item
Let it dry
Sniff
Wash as usual

I read it’s also really great for dry clean only clothes or stinky armpits on an otherwise clean shirt. Meaning if your clothes are actually dirty the vodka won’t help. Unless you drink it then they won’t look so dirty after a while.

Olaf the Pumpkin Snowman!

I am sure there are a 100 posts about this on Pinterest. But I’m not even going to check. I’m just going to post this for you here because I think it’s so stinkin’ cute.

Olaf from Disney’s Frozen made out of pumpkins for Halloween!

I will NEVER do this this but I hope some of you crafty mamas out there do! I can’t take credit for this. Some crafty person at the Red Fox Bar & Grille in NH made this. We saw it when we visited this weekend. I had to share.

Wordless Wednesday – Money Problems

We don’t have money problems, per se. My problem with money is that I’m terrible with it. I don’t spend a lot of it, but I don’t like to manage it. I hate figuring it all out. HATE IT!

money

We deferred our taxes in April and I put off doing the work until it was due. Like, NOW.

Right NOW. I need to do the taxes.

It’s not even the heavy lifting. There is an accountant and a book keeper. But there is still other STUFF. And for some reason the person that doesn’t like to manage money has to um, manage it.

So that’s where I’ll be instead of the lovely post I was planning for today.

Also, Mint is saving my ass right now! I big puff heart you Mint!

Are you “good” with money? Who handles in it your house?

My messy house.

messyhousestill

My messy house happened fast and it’s going to take a long time to pick up this I know for sure.

School starts on Tuesday that that stuff needs to be done before the picking up of the mess.

OR maybe I need to pick up first so I’m more organized. I don’t know.

All I know is I need help and I’m clearly not going to get any!

I recorded this on Wednesday which in my post vacation stupor I thought was Monday. So now it’s Friday and the house is not clean “by the end of the week” like I said it would be because DUH my brain thinks it’s now Wednesday.

Follow? No?

It’s okay I’ll have it clean soon :-) Just keepin’ it real for the internet y’all.

Wayfair Daily Deals – Room Accessories

The extra money in this house doesn’t go to decorating. It’s a sad story I know. It’s pretty low on the list. Extra money goes to organic food, kid activities, travel, home improvement, and then, maybe, decorating.

My husband is an architect so he has pretty specific ideas about how our house should look and how we should decorate. And of course so do I. One of our biggest fights ever was over paint color. In my defense I was 8 months pregnant, so clearly I WAS RIGHT. Right?

So when I get a little mad money the easiest way I know to freshen the look of the house is with accessories like rugs and pillows. I love a good throw pillow!

Exhibit A :-)

Bianca Green Her Daily Motivation Throw Pillow

I found this pillow on one of my favorite everything home websites, Wayfair.com. Recently, they launched a new feature called Wayfair Daily Deals. Each day there are new collections filled with items that are available on sale, but only for 72 hours. There are collections for furniture, rugs, office, patio, kitchen, kids, and more. You get an email in your inbox and you poke around for a bit and find some awesome stuff like this:

Decorative Pillow in White & Yellow    Hea Throw Pillow in Blueberry

These two could brighten any room. The more I look at that yellow one the more I love it.

Home & Porch Sand Rug

Covington Summer Siesta Blue & Green Rug

These two are similar but so different, I can’t decide which I want to put in the living room.

And then there’s this cabinet. Can I talk about how much I love this cabinet? I covet this cabinet. It doesn’t come under the accessory category, but it would be lovely in my home.

Shelby Cabinet in Brown
