#liveunlimited Bracelet for the MDA

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is kicking off a fantastic campaign this summer. “Live Unlimited is all about transforming our perceived limits into unlimited possibilities to live life to the fullest; the campaign is inspired by the strength and courage of MDA families who do remarkable things every day despite the physical and societal limits diseases like muscular dystrophy and ALS often create.” Christine Koh at Boston Mamas

I’m spreading the word about MDA and its amazing families, and also inspire everyone to view every day as an opportunity to overcome challenges, doubts, and obstacles and live life to the fullest. We all have obstacles, some more apparent than others. Some we hide. Anyone overcoming an obstacle, big or small should get the encouragement and praise they deserve.

The MDA has developed a partnership with Endorphin Warrior. Endorphin Warrior is making a special limited edition Live Unlimited bracelet — they are stylish, inspirational, and guy-friendly too. During this campaign, Endorphin Warrior will sell these bracelets ($22) with $6 of each sale going directly to MDA.

I was particularly excited to get my bracelet on the very day that I did something I never thought I would do…run a 5K! I signed up the whole darn family and WE DID IT! Everyone finished. The littlest among us pushing the oldest. It was awesome.

Teach them not to rape.

Between the peanut flour in the pretzels I used to let Theo eat, the possibility that my kids have been drinking lead water for YEARS, and the end of school year crazy: I have not given the proper outrage to the Standford case.

Please read the victim’s statement. We need her to know that we see her and that we believe her. That we know this case is about misogyny and white privilege, and RAPE (not “action”).

I vow to her that I will raise boys that chase down the rapist of an unconscious girl and hold him down until the police arrive. I will teach them NOT TO RAPE. They will be the boys that help, not harm. This has to stop.

I was not only told that I was assaulted, I was told that because I couldn’t remember, I technically could not prove it was unwanted. And that distorted me, damaged me, almost broke me. It is the saddest type of confusion to be told I was assaulted and nearly raped, blatantly out in the open, but we don’t know if it counts as assault yet. I had to fight for an entire year to make it clear that there was something wrong with this situation.

A life, one life, yours, you forgot about mine. Let me rephrase for you, I want to show people that one night of drinking can ruin two lives. You and me. You are the cause, I am the effect. You have dragged me through this hell with you, dipped me back into that night again and again. You knocked down both our towers, I collapsed at the same time you did. If you think I was spared, came out unscathed, that today I ride off into sunset, while you suffer the greatest blow, you are mistaken. Nobody wins. We have all been devastated, we have all been trying to find some meaning in all of this suffering. Your damage was concrete; stripped of titles, degrees, enrollment. My damage was internal, unseen, I carry it with me. You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice, until today.

You should be off to see The Wizard of Oz in Boston

You should go to this show.

This new production of The Wizard of Oz is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic, totally reconceived for the stage. Developed from the ever popular MGM screenplay, this production contains the beloved songs from the Oscar® – winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The Wizard of Oz is at the Citi Center Wang Theatre in Boston through April 24th.

My family and I went to the show on Wednesday night and it was SO GOOD! I had three generation of Oz fans in attendance. My mother, me and my three kids. We all loved it. Four out of five of us had seen the movie. The 5 year old had seen it but didn’t remember it. It didn’t stop him from enjoying the show. He only started to fade in the last two minutes of the show. It was 9:25 after all. So it was to be expected. My mom had a smile the whole show. The 9 year old was literally sitting on the edge of his seat. My 7yo girl sitting next to me was squeezing my hand evertime Dorothy sang.

In my time as a blogger I have been able to see many shows and come back here and tell you all about them.  I like some, really like others, but this one…I loved.  Like I would go see it again, loved. We attended the yellow carpet arrival of Dorothy, Toto, and the Muchkins.

The show stayed true to the movie and gave it a few new songs and some new, funny modern dialogue. I’ll let you see for yourself how they handle the tornado and the flying monkeys. It’s good stuff. The Wicked Witch even makes an appearance in the audience at one point.

  • Miniature lockers staged to look just like the ones in the Red Sox clubhouse will be installed in Wally’s Clubhouse, and an oversized trunk filled with authentic Red Sox jerseys, cleats, and batting gloves will be available for kids to play dress up.
  • In addition to the tactile elements, enhanced organized games and activities such as Red Sox bingo, story time, Q&A sessions, and lessons on scoring the game will take place in the space. The Red Sox will also host a comprehensive clinic later in the season for kids who want to learn how to score the game.
  • And for the young collectors in the family, an extensive Red Sox bobblehead collection will be on display in the Team Store window located in the Kids Concourse.
  • At the end of Spring Training, Tessie the Green Monster (Wally’s sister) will take her place in the Kids Concourse where she will be a permanent staple before and during Red Sox home games throughout the season.

The Nutcracker 2015 – Boston Ballet

Boston Ballet

Boston Ballet in Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker; photo by Rosalie O’Connor.

One of my very favorite traditions of the holiday season is going to the Nutcracker with my daughter.

We get all dolled up, have a nice dinner out and go to the Ballet. I never want it to end. The evening, or the tradition. I know it will some day soon, she is getting so big. Already seven and becoming smarter and stronger every day. So I soak it all in.

The way she looks at the city, the theater, the dancers, the sets, the costumes, and me. The way her eyes light up when she sees the tree grow, how she giggles at the black sheep and the bear, the sound of her gasp as the men jump SO high, seeing her sit at the edge of her seat as the prima ballerina skillfully stays on pointe.

Again the dancing was flawless, sets and costumes gorgeous, so much loveliness in one place.

The Nutcracker is a story of Christmas but also of childhood. The wonder and magic of both. I love that I get to be a part of it with my little girl every year.

The Nutcracker is being performed by the Boston Ballet through December 31st. You can purchase your tickets here.

At The Nutcracker! @bostonballet never disappoints. #ballet #boston #christmas
