I found JOY at Irving Berlin’s White Christmas
Look at this! That little kid getting the autographs? My boy! He was in the Globe too.
I have been in a scroogey, bah humbuggy, blerrrrrrgh to all things holiday mood for a while now. I do not know why. I can’t explain it. I have small kids, this time should be magical. That’s what everyone tells me anyway. But here’s where I get scroogey – it’s a lot of work. So many things, to do, and buy and make. It all just seems like too much sometimes.
I ran a giveaway for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas last week. I almost didn’t because I didn’t want to do the work. But then I thought just because I am in a foul mood doesn’t mean that someone else (read you my lovely and precious few readers) might like to go. That someone else might be in a joyous holiday mood. So I ran the giveaway. The winner was super excited to go!
Now it’s confession time. I have never seen the movie White Christmas. I get funny crinkled up nose looks when I’ve told people that in the past week.
“Really?” they say.
Really.
I almost didn’t do the giveaway which brought people joy. I almost didn’t go the show which brought me joy. I almost didn’t take some friends, who were thrilled to be able to go, joyous in fact. I almost didn’t go the red carpet beforehand which led to so much joy for my son.
So all that joy and goodness and love and I almost didn’t get to do any of it. I almost didn’t go when the worst thing that could’ve happened was that I saw an awesome show. And it was awesome. The tap dance number in the middle of the show was worth the effort alone.
If you’ve seen the movie you’ll love the show. My friend that came with us has seen the movie many many times and she thought it was fantastic!
I just read this quote on someone’s Facebook page “What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?” Dr. Suess.
I needed a reminder that the holiday season means a little bit more. Joy. Bringing other people joy. And joy for me. Yes please, MORE JOY FOR ME :-)
